A Nebraska Feedlot Signs a C$58M Bet on Biogas

The Adams Land & Cattle feedlot in Broken Bow, Nebraska, doesn't look like the frontier of clean energy. It's going to be one anyway

Anaergia has signed a C$58 million contract with Neogenyx Fuels, a newly formed joint venture between Ameresco and HA Sustainable Infrastructure Capital, to deploy proprietary anaerobic digestion technology at the large-scale agricultural facility. The plant will capture and process manure through digestion to produce biogas, which will then be upgraded to pipeline-quality renewable natural gas

The scale is serious. Systems are designed to produce over 4,400 standard cubic feet per minute of biogas, translating to roughly 1.2 million MMBtu of pipeline-quality RNG annually. Anaergia expects to recognize approximately C$58 million in revenue over the next two years, with potential for additional deployments as Neogenyx builds out its portfolio

The project sits at the intersection of several converging forces. Utility demand for RNG alone could exceed 300 million MMBtu per year by 2030, more than double today's total U.S. production. Agricultural feedstocks are among the most abundant and least tapped sources in the sector. Farm-based biogas attracted $835 million in investment in 2025 across 40 new projects, signalling that institutional capital has made its judgment about feedstock viability. Beyond energy, the Adams facility is projected to avoid approximately 63,700 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually, and digestion byproducts will become fertilizer and livestock bedding

Ameresco holds a 70 percent stake in Neogenyx, with the venture bringing in $100 million in direct proceeds to Ameresco and $300 million in capital to the joint venture. The Nebraska project is designed as proof-of-concept for hub-and-spoke models that route distributed farm digesters into centralized upgrading hubs. If it works at Adams Land & Cattle, it can work almost anywhere
