Constellation Bets on RNG Beyond the Pump

Constellation Energy announced on May 14, 2026, a minority equity stake in five operating RNG production facilities owned by Pine Creek RNG, spanning Washington, Utah, Iowa, and Illinois. Together they produce approximately 1.5 million MMBtus of renewable natural gas annually

ICF analysis projects that utility demand for RNG could reach 300 million MMBtu annually by 2030, a figure that dwarfs on-road vehicle consumption. State-level mandates in California and Oregon are accelerating that transition, requiring pipeline injection and thermal supply rather than transportation fuel. Constellation's stake positions it to capture value from this structural reorientation

The agreement extends beyond current operations. Constellation and Pine Creek have established a development framework targeting an additional 3 million MMBtus of annual production capacity. Constellation gains rights to market the RNG output and associated environmental attributes from the five existing facilities, allowing it to match renewable gas supply against corporate decarbonization commitments under Scope 1 and Scope 3 reporting standards. For Pine Creek, the partnership delivers predictable offtake for new projects and lends credibility to future project financing at a moment when lenders are scrutinising RNG developer revenue visibility with greater care. California's biomethane procurement programme under Senate Bill 1440 is ramping. Other states are signalling similar targets.
